Irrigation Tips

Monthly System Check Up

Observe your sprinkler system once per month. Look for heads that don't turn on, heads that spray into the street or onto a sidewalk, bent or damaged heads, clogged or worn nozzles or orifices, turf growth around heads that impede water delivery, puddling and runoff, leaks or hizzing sounds underground.

How Much to Water

Drip irrigation is usually needed less frequently than sprinkler irrigation. The following frequency is recommended by SNWA and should provide most plants with sufficient water:

  • 1 day per week or less during the winter

  • 2 days per week during spring and fall

  • 3 days per week during the summer

In general, the higher the gph flow of your emitter, the shorter your drip system run time.

Open Irrigation boxes

Irrigation boxes should be open at least once a month to inspect for leaks or water accumulated in box. If water is accumulated a leak is present and will need to be inspected. There is two different kind of leaks in a box a constant leak that leaks when the system is on or off and a leak that only leaks when the system runs. An inspection can determine and find the leak. Give us a call if you encounter this problem.
